The Petal Postscript
Interpreting your letter as a floral arrangement
Write a letter. It can be addressed to anyone. Contra Petals will select one submission and transform it into an original floral arrangement, inspired by the emotions and story within. The letter and arrangement will be featured, and the final creation delivered to whomever the writer chooses.
|
Letters and flowers have always wanted the same thing: to carry something too tender to say out loud. The Petal Postscript is our way of honoring both, and finding what happens when they speak together.
|
We will read every submission and choose one letter that moves us. From it, we will design an arrangement that reflects the letter's emotions. The finished arrangement will be photographed and featured by Contra Petals alongside the letter, then personally delivered, free of charge, to the recipient of the writer's choice.
|
This project exists because we believe creativity belongs to everyone, and that Boston is richer when its artists are in conversation with each other. The Petal Postscript is our contribution to that.

We will personally review each letter submission during the first week of April and notify the selected participant by the end of the first week.
-
This is a creative outlet for you as much as it is for Contra Petals. We want you to feel empowered to write any form of letter to anything or anyone that has sparked an inspiration or emotion.
-
The letter can be addressed to anyone or anything, even to those who have passed or even to yourself.
If you have a pre-existing letter that you’d like to submit instead of writing a new one, you can do that as well.
-
In submitting the letter, you are giving Contra Petals consent to feature the letter publicly. Though the contents of the letter will be made public if selected, you can request to have your name redacted.
-
Yes, and we encourage it. You don’t need to have florals delivered or even live near Boston to submit a letter to us. If your letter is selected, you will still see it interpreted as an original floral work.
-
The arrangement will be an interpretive work of art inspired by your writing.
-
Submit your letter through our form on this page. You have the choice of uploading a handwritten piece, if that’s the mode of writing you prefer.
-
We kindly ask that each letter be less than 500 words.
-
If your letter is selected, we will email you to coordinate a personal delivery or pickup.
The delivery address should be <30 mi from Boston, MA.
-
Letters that aren’t selected may still be featured on our social, just not as an interpretive floral work.
